As soon as I received this belt, I knew it was not leather. (Unfortunately this is all too common in the belt industry). The material feels light, cheap, and spongy. It squeaks when you move the buckle around. And the color is a much lighter brown, without a sheen finish, as pictured. The only part of the belt that is finished like in the photos is the loop after the buckle.Aside from the poor quality, it’s badly designed too. The ‘leather’ loop that you stick the belt thru after you buckle it, is way too tight. Yes it fits but you have to struggle to get it thru. Also the slit in the leather for the metal prong of the buckle is oriented inward, instead of out, so when you go to open the prong, it pulls on the ‘leather’. This will surely be a point of failure.
This belt is cheap garbage. It is not leather so people that can’t tell the difference please stop saying it is. The belt is made of cheap and spongy faux leather with a thin buckle which is also made of sub par materials. Overall this belt is complete trash and if you get one that lasts then I would consider yourself lucky.
I really, really wanted to like this belt. I think it’s well made. But, here’s where the problems come in:1. The leather, while soft, is very stretchy. I don’t know if this is due to the grade of the leather, or how it’s processed. But, in action, it will inevitably mean the belt will deform at the back and at points where tension exists.2. The Buckle. One of the reasons I bought this belt, was the buckle looked like a good match for the leather. However, what I received has more of a black chrome looking finish to it… too dressy for the casual, classic styling of the belt. Between the picture in the advertisement, another picture of the belt from another reviewer, and my own…That makes *THREE* different types of buckles you could potentially get by ordering the same belt. That’s no bueno. To the exec(s) at hide and drink: If you have supply issues with a particular buckle, change the advertisement or pull the product. Do not just put whatever buckle you have on the belt, and assume customers won’t notice. They will. It’s a waste of their time…and nothing frustrates me more than people wasting my time. This is bad business!3. I also ordered a tool roll from Hide & Drink. That, however, actually does seem to be the real deal. The riveting is solid, the leather is of the correct grade for something utilitarian like a tool roll, and I suspect that I will keep that.
